Filosofo Hide Email Addresses

What does Filosofo Hide Email Addresses do?

Filosofo Hide Email Addresses is a WordPress plugin that disguises email addresses within your posts and pages from spambots. The email addresses look the same to visitors using JavaScript, but they are hidden from spambots.

The plugin looks for email addresses of two forms:

  • Standing alone, surrounded by whitespace: example (located at) example (dot) com
  • Within a link, as “mailto”: (Your Name) example (located at) example (dot) com

Where do I download it?

Filosofo 0.5.0 | August 11, 2006

  1. Download one of the files above and extract it. Then upload the

    filosofo-hide-email-js.php

file into your WordPress plugins directory, and activate it under Plugins in the admin control panel.
  2. Note: this plugin is in beta form; your mileage may vary.

So I guess if you are going to use text, CLICK HERE or EMAIL and enclose that in the mailto: tag, you are ok. Or if you are just going to publish an email address, (email@email.com) email (located at) email (dot) com it will work ok. But not both.

    Well done,
but unfortunately it doesn’t work with other country domains, I mean, here in Brazil we have example@example.com.br that isn’t read by the plugin…

I did a simple test with this plugin and it doesn’t seem to work in WP 2.7.

The email I posted is in plan sight and would definately be found by a spambot.

Replacing characters of the email with the unicode equivalent is a different way that might deter spambots. How hard would it be to create a plugin that does that or adding it to this one?

Any ideas why it wouldn’t work on 2.7?

There are plugins that do that; I think one is called “Email Immunizer.” I’m pretty sure though that spambots are not fooled by that at all.

This plugin could use some updating, as you can see I haven’t made any changes for over two years. Is the email you tried the one you used for leaving a comment?
